Gourmet Candle Business

GVCandles  was started in January of 2005.  It was my first experience with Multi-Level-Marketing. 

The first two years of my business were focused on the retailing and fundraising aspects of my business.  While I had no intention of recruiting or building a team, it happened. 

I achieved the Diamond Distributor within the first three months of my business without much effort on my part.  When I received my first commission check from the company, I decided I needed to pay more attention to the team building aspect of my business.

During the first two years my primary focus was still on retailing because that put cash in my pocket quickly but I also started working the Internet for recruiting others.

Late in 2006 and early 2007 I started to become disillusioned with the direction I was being told to take with my business and came to the realization that I needed to educate myself in my industry. 

All of my previous career choices had been backed up with education and knowledge by formal education yet I found myself in a situation where I was relying on people with little or no formal education when it came to building my home business.

I took a marketing course (which is ongoing) and soon realized that the business I was building was more to suit the needs of others instead of my own needs and vision.  At this point I concluded that I needed to rebuild the foundation of my business from a practical point of view and I had to build a solid foundation for my business.

I also needed to have a firm grasp on my industry based on facts and not hype.  I took time to learn about the candle industry and studied my competitors.  Doing this gave me a very clear picture of what I had to offer in my product line and also allowed me to use facts to promote my products instead of trying to scare people into buying my products. 

The knowledge I gained from my research and marketing education also firmed up the foundation of my business so that I was standing on solid ground based on facts not industry or typical MLM hype.
